BenchSci - Documentary Style Photography
The Challenge
Benchsci is a technology company that accelerates biomedical research by using artificial intelligence. Benchsci supports scientists in their life-saving research, directly affecting medical breakthroughs and impacting patients' lives. Using stock photography was not conveying realism to the biology lab experience or the diversity of scientists in the lab today. We wanted original, authentic photography.

The Solution
I project managed and directed a photoshoot with Westside Studios; involved in every detail from casting, location scouting, prop selection, and photographic editing style to managing internal stakeholders in DEI, customer success and collaborating with a scientific liaison.

My vision was to feature scientist and the important work they do that gets life-saving medicine to patients. The most important aspect of these photos is to represent the authenticity of scientists performing real activities. I chose a documentary style to convey the extremely focused and precise nature of their work, enhanced by using dramatic lighting, angles and depth-of-field.
We achieved an image library of 75 unique photos of authentic in-the-moment scientists at work, with guidelines on there use combined with our graphic style. Our photos and graphics feature on our website, marketing and sales material.
